Leading Faculty Discussion Groups

Another strand of my activities explores how academics learn collectively, in particular, the potential of conversational forms of professional development. I was co-organizer of faculty discussions in 2012-2020, which revolved around various topics, such as teaching critical thinking, leading seminars, assessment strategies, reflective practice etc. I investigated the evolutionary nature of conversations on teaching and learning among multidisciplinary groups of faculty and studied how conversations could lead to shared understandings and practices. With the grant received from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, I collaborated with Dr. Jelena Belic (Leiden University, Netherlands) to inquire semi-formal faculty conversations and their contribution to creating the scholar-teacher community. Our co-authored publication From an Individual to an Institution: Observations about the Evolutionary Nature of Conversations appeared in the International Journal of Academic Development.
