Mentoring Early-career Faculty who Prepare Roma Students for University Programs

I have been supporting tutors who teach in the Roma Graduate Preparatory Program since 2018. Being engaged in this unique program which prepares outstanding Roma graduates with an interest in social sciences and humanities to compete for places on Master’s-level courses at internationally recognized universities inspires me as a teacher in higher education based in Hungary. I have been facilitating monthly meetings with the disciplinary tutors (those early-career faculty or doctoral students who teach discipline-specific seminars in a highly personalized manner to their students). My aim is to nurture a critical friends’ group where colleagues reflect on their students’ progress and on their pedagogical solutions in a structured way. All this happens in a safe environment where strengths and weaknesses are both welcome.
